The Challenge

The company’s suite of cloud-based field service & fleet management solutions, which include PestPac®, WorkWave Service™, ServiceCEO™, WorkWave Route Manager™, WorkWave GPS™, GPS Heroes™ and ContactUs™, allow WorkWave clients to easily attribute and automate sales and marketing activities, improve their back-office efficiency and increase their visibility into field operations through a single, easy to use interface. WorkWave’s platform provides its 8,000+ clients an unprecedented level of business insight and information, enabling them to increase efficiency, increase revenue and provide a 5-Star customer experience.

R&D Solutions consults WorkWave on how to improve their processes and optimize their costs. Part of our work involves enhancing the way log files are used. To get real benefit of the log files the data must be presented in a handy and meaningful way, using AWS archive mechanics cost optimization strategies.

The Solution

Technology used:

For the needs of WorkWave we have implemented a solution which monitors IIS, Application, Event Logs and other log types, stores the data in ElasticSearch. This solution guarantees that particular set of recipients receive notifications based on concrete rules, applied to the logged information. We chose to visualize the log files using dashboards in Kibana. What we did in short is:

Configuration of ElasticSearch Cluster using ElasticSearch AWS service
Installing of Logstash agents on the required EC2 instances
Configuration of Logstash to monitor the necessary log files
Application of additional logic to Logstash to send email notifications based on specified rules
Validation of all the data is to be uploaded to ElasticSearch Cluster
Configuration of Kibana dashboards

The Results

The result of applying our ElasticSearch solution are functional, scalable and cost optimized logs. With enriched data visualization identifying issues is optimized and improved. Management and decision-making processes also benefit from this upgrade as they are now more effective.
